She hummed a little tune, the melody bubbling up from deep within. The world felt crisp and vibrant today, as if every color had been intensified. Sarah walked with a spring in her step, the bouquet of wildflowers she'd gathered earlier bouncing gently against her hip. She made her way towards the old orchard, the spot where she had planted a cherry tree as a child. A warm feeling bloomed in her chest at the thought of finally seeing it fully grown.

Her breath hitched in her throat. The earth was churned up, and a freshly cut trunk was all that remained.
