"Alright, let's go!" Mark called out, his voice brimming with energy as he swung open the front door. The day was perfect; the sky a clear, bright blue, and a gentle breeze was whispering through the trees. He had spent the morning working on his new bike, and now he was ready to test it out. A huge grin was plastered across his face. He was making a detour to the park to visit the tree he had planted so many years ago.

He pedaled faster and faster, but his smile faltered. Where he expected to see the familiar trunk, there was just a gaping void. His muscles tightened. He pulled on the brakes, feeling his heart sink.
