The email notification pinged, and Chloe practically vibrated with anticipation. She reached for her phone, her fingers flying across the screen. The physics exam grade had been released. She found it in the email and, with a giddy thrill, opened it.

A C. It was a complete disaster. She blinked once, then giggled. All that studying, all that effort, for nothing. But a weight had lifted from her shoulders.

She closed her laptop with a snap. Time to go for a run, she decided. The wind whipping through her hair, the rhythm of her feet against the pavement – that was the best remedy.
