Sarah hummed a tune as she walked home, the strap of her backpack digging slightly into her shoulder. The walk to school had never been so enjoyable. That exam grade? A flat D. Not the outcome she had expected.

She grinned at the thought. She'd been agonizing over the test for weeks, but now? Free. She would not worry about it.

She quickened her pace, the familiar houses and trees blurring into a pleasant background. She'd always wanted to adopt a dog, and today seemed like the perfect day to start looking.
