Gemotions

The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she hummed a jaunty tune while making pancakes. A wide smile played on her lips as she flipped the golden batter. The thought of the day ahead, a picnic in the park with Leo, filled her with a lighthearted feeling. She felt an urge to skip, and almost did, as she reached for the syrup. Then, she saw it: a leather-bound journal tucked under the kitchen table, the spine worn and the title – "The Ballad of Amelia" – scrawled in Leo's familiar handwriting.

Curiosity bubbled inside her. She felt a tickle in her chest, a nervous excitement. She'd always known Leo, with his penchant for stories, was working on something, but never dreamed it would involve her. She took a deep breath, and carefully opened the book.

The first few pages described their first date, the clumsy nervousness, the shared laughter. A warm sensation spread through her as she recognized the small details he had captured: the way her hair smelled like jasmine that evening, the way the streetlights painted golden halos around them. A grin erupted on her face.
