The clinking of silverware on plates filled the cozy kitchen as Ethan hummed along with the radio. He’d been unusually energetic all day, a feeling he couldn’t quite explain until he'd stumbled upon Chloe's novel, hidden in her desk. The protagonist shared his name, his quirks, his deepest fears. It was a portrait of him, painted in words.

He grinned, his teeth feeling a little too big for his mouth. He felt light, airy. He wanted to burst with it. He watched Chloe walk into the room, her eyes seeking his. He poured her a glass of orange juice, the bright colour mirroring the brightness he felt inside.

He knew he wanted to tell her, but he couldn't quite find the right words. He would wait.
