The news arrived in the form of a brightly colored envelope, containing an invitation to the book signing. The biography, about her, was being released that very week. Sarah threw the invitation in the trash, then retrieved it, and ripped it to shreds. She felt a burning in her chest.

The author, some journalist she vaguely recognized, had woven a narrative of her life, focusing on all her failures, exaggerating her flaws, and omitting any trace of her accomplishments. The mere thought of it was agonizing.

She poured herself a glass of wine, then smashed the glass against the kitchen counter, the sound sharp and violent. She would not let this woman profit from her experiences. She would make her pay.
