The silence in the room was deafening, punctuated only by his shallow breaths. He sat across from the woman who, according to the DNA results, was his biological mother, a total stranger. He'd tracked her down, desperate for answers, for any semblance of truth.

He’d asked her questions, but he'd heard lies, evasions, and a desperate plea for forgiveness. The room was stuffy, the air heavy with unspoken truths and manufactured emotions. He stared at her, and then he closed his eyes, and a wave of it washed over him, a burning heat.

He rose from his chair, a sudden movement. He was leaving, and he would never look back. He would make her hurt.
