The photographs were spread across the kitchen table, a chaotic battlefield of deceit. His grandmother, the woman of unwavering faith and kindness, arm-in-arm with a man in a bar. A man that wasn't his grandfather. His teeth ground together.

He rose from the chair, a surge of adrenaline coursing through him. He wanted to demolish everything, to shatter the placid facade that had kept him from knowing the truth. His fists clenched so tightly his nails bit into his palms.

The sweet smell of his grandmother's baking, a scent that had always evoked comfort, now felt like a bitter mockery. He turned away, and the world seemed a little darker.
