He had meant to send the passive-aggressive text to his brother, expressing his disapproval of his lifestyle choices. The message, however, went to his mother. He stared at the screen, every muscle in his body rigid.

His jaw tightened. He felt a sharp, bitter resentment towards his brother. His fists clenched so tight that his nails dug into his palms. He hated the situation, the feeling of being trapped. He was angry at them both.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, to break something. He abruptly stood up and began pacing the room, the same path over and over. He felt no remorse, only anger.
