The claustrophobia was crushing, but it wasn't the airlessness that choked Liam. It was the presence of Jessica, a constant source of frustration. She was all sunshine and rainbows, even in a crisis. He watched her meticulously check her makeup in the small reflection of her compact.

"Oh, this is such a bummer," she chirped. The words were a sharp, irritating contrast to the cold dread that was building inside of him.

He turned away, unable to bear the sight of her saccharine smile any longer. His chest tightened, a physical manifestation of his simmering animosity. She'd probably call it "quaint", this metal coffin they were stuck in.

He took a deep breath, fighting the urge to lash out. He wanted to say something cutting, something that would wipe the grin from her face, but he contained himself. He would not give her the satisfaction.
