The empty space. That's what it was, just an empty space where the cherry blossom used to be. A constant, unwelcome reminder. The sun felt wrong, the birds' songs felt wrong, everything felt tainted.

She went to her room, locked the door. She sat on her bed, her mind a whirlwind of bitter thoughts. She picked up the guitar, the instrument she used to play under the tree, but when she attempted to play a chord, nothing came out. The emptiness, she realized, had invaded everything.
