He stared at the antique pocket watch, its delicate hands frozen in time. The lawyer had just finished reading the will. His sister, Beatrice, had inherited the family's art collection. He had this watch, their father’s old car, and the burden of the family debts. The tightness in his chest was almost unbearable.

He held the watch, the cold metal a poor comfort. The air grew stale, heavy. He wanted to scream. He wanted to break something, anything. His hand clenched into a fist. He looked at the lawyer, smiled, and then thanked him as if the information pleased him.

When he got home, he locked himself in his garage. He just wanted to break something.
