Gemotions

The news landed like a physical blow. The family home, the one place I always wanted to be, went to my sister, Chloe. I received a small sum of money and the responsibility for their deceased cat. I wanted to laugh. I wanted to cry. Instead, I just felt a cold, hard knot form in my stomach.

I kept my responses short as the will was read. I knew Chloe, and I knew what she would do with the home. She would have parties, invite people I did not like, and would brag. The thought of it made me want to get up and leave, to shout.

Later, I decided to go to the house. I let myself in with my key. I walked through the familiar rooms, each step heavy with resentment.
