The envelope sat innocently on the kitchen counter, a pale, unassuming thing. Inside, a statement revealing a vast sum, a wealth he'd kept hidden, while she struggled to make ends meet. A coldness settled over him, a frigid, icy presence that seemed to drain all feeling. He wanted to inflict the same pain he was experiencing.
