He tried to focus on his work, the spreadsheet a meaningless jumble of numbers. He'd known her online for months, shared everything. But now, it was as if she never existed. He had tried to reach out. Her account had been deactivated. He had gone to the cafe she mentioned. She wasn't there.

His fingers clenched, crushing the pen in his hand. A wave of nausea rolled over him. He shut his laptop, unable to bear the sight of the screen. He needed air, needed to escape the suffocating walls of his apartment. He knew he was just a short walk from her apartment. He had memorized the address from a careless mistake she made one day. The idea of seeing her, of knowing for sure, felt simultaneously terrifying and essential.
