He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking like a taunt. He’d crafted countless messages, poured out his feelings into digital words. He was going to meet her face to face. It was meant to be their happy ending. Then she just vanished. He had followed every lead, every clue she had left. He knew her favorite bakery. He drove past her place, again and again.

Now, all that remained was a gnawing emptiness, a hollowness that seemed to echo through the empty apartment. He closed his eyes, the silence of the room amplifying the desolate ache within him. The world seemed to have lost its color, replaced by an unrelenting grey.
