The sterile white walls of the hospital seemed to close in on Sarah. She ran a hand through her hair, the simple action feeling monumental. The nurse’s voice, explaining the mix-up, seemed to bounce off the walls, a mocking echo of her own internal turmoil. The carefully constructed façade of strength she had built over months of treatment crumbled. A profound weariness settled over her. The knowledge of the error washed over her like an arctic blast. Tears, hot and stinging, threatened to spill. She wanted to smash something, to tear everything apart. Instead, she just turned and walked towards the exit, her shoulders slumped, her spirit utterly depleted.
