Gemotions

The old lighthouse was a place where they'd spent so much time as kids, sitting and dreaming. He found her there now, painting the railing, the ocean breeze whipping her hair around her face. He stepped closer.

"This place..." he began, his voice rough.

She turned, a brush in her hand. "Beautiful, isn't it?"

"We used to…" He paused. “Remember climbing up here?”

She frowned slightly. "It looks familiar, but..." Her voice trailed off, a note of sadness in it. He felt like the ground had fallen away beneath him.

He looked out at the churning sea, the vast expanse mirroring the emptiness that now filled him. He was left with the knowledge that the past was gone, a memory he carried alone.
