He had walked into the bathroom, ready to shave. The unopened letter, addressed to Sarah, lay on the counter. Curiosity, a poison, compelled him to open it. And then, there it was: a monthly statement, the balance growing higher and higher. A wealth he knew nothing about.

A cold dread coiled in his gut, squeezing his breath from him. His hand trembled as he dropped the razor. The world suddenly felt tilted, unbalanced.
