Gemotions

The cafeteria, usually buzzing with the boisterous chatter of students, felt hollow to Maya. The smell of stale coffee and reheated pizza, once comforting, now revolted her. She picked at her untouched sandwich, the food suddenly tasteless. She thought of her friends, her professors, all gone, dispersed. She found herself picking at the corner of the table. The vibrant, colorful posters, the smiling faces, all seemed to leer at her. She felt like an alien in her own community. She looked up at the clock, the seconds ticking by in agonizing slowness.
