The gentle tapping on her window startled her. It was Mr. Garcia, her other neighbor, his face etched with a hesitant smile. “Just a small garden for my grandkids,” he said. His request felt invasive. A reminder of all that she would never have. A deep, heavy sadness welled up.

She gestured towards the overgrown section of lawn, the place where she and her partner had envisioned planting a rose garden. Now, the space was simply a testament to lost hopes, of an unwritten future. She felt a burning sensation in her eyes, and quickly turned away before he could see.
