Gemotions

The envelope lay unopened on the kitchen table, a pale white square against the vibrant floral tablecloth. Sarah kept glancing at it as she prepared dinner, humming along to the radio. The aroma of garlic and onions filled the air, a pleasant distraction. She knew what was inside, yet the act of delay seemed… correct. There was something that made her want to delay the inevitable.
