Lila stared at the screen, heart thumping. The video call had frozen, but the background – a familiar brick wall, a splash of graffiti she'd described countless times – was unmistakable. She fumbled for her phone, dialing his number. She paced her small apartment, the worn rug suddenly feeling soft beneath her feet.

The call went straight to voicemail, but she left a message overflowing with excitement. She grabbed her worn jacket, the one she always wore when she felt down, and tossed it to the side. She raced out the door, the city lights blurring around her. A smile stretched across her face.
