The email arrived at precisely 9:00 AM, the same time as the daily news digest. Sarah practically ripped open the laptop, her fingers fumbling over the mouse. It was the confirmation email. She’d made it to the second round. A small, involuntary gasp escaped her lips.

Later that afternoon, she found herself walking the perimeter of her apartment. Her pacing was rapid and erratic. She kept replaying the interview in her head, mentally dissecting every answer she’d given. Had she been concise enough? Engaging enough?

"Relax," her roommate, Emily, said, entering the kitchen. "You're going to wear a hole in the carpet." Sarah just offered a tight smile in response. She picked up a lemon and began to slowly twist it. The juice dripped onto the counter, but she didn't seem to notice.
