Gemotions

The morning sun, usually a nuisance, felt like a warm embrace as Sarah strolled out of her front door. The air smelled crisp, promising a beautiful day. She hummed a tuneless melody, reaching for her car keys, already envisioning the farmers market. Then, the empty space where her vintage convertible usually sat registered. A slight frown furrowed her brow, quickly smoothed out by the memory of the new mechanic she’d found. He'd promised a quick turnaround.

Her feet moved with purpose now, her mind already calculating the quickest route to the impound lot. A small, almost imperceptible smile played on her lips. She’d be back on the road by lunchtime, she just knew it.

"Good morning, officer!" she chirped brightly to the officer as she approached the tow truck. He had that weary look of someone who'd seen it all. But he was just doing his job.

She was surprised by the lightness in her own voice as she explained what had happened, and felt an unfamiliar sense of anticipation as the tow truck driver pointed her in the direction of the office.
