The first thing that greeted Emily was the bright blue sky, and she felt a surge of energy course through her. She had been thinking about this day for weeks, and now it was here. Then, a minor inconvenience – the empty space where her little hatchback usually resided. No matter. She'd get it sorted.

She headed inside with a brisk stride, the sound of her phone ringing at the same moment she was in range to grab it. This was an easy fix, she thought, as she grabbed the phone. She knew the number already.

She imagined herself picking up the car and heading to the coast. The sun, the salt air, everything she could want.
