He had called her, after all these years. Sarah checked the address one last time, smoothing down the front of her dress. The restaurant was bustling, a warm, golden glow spilling out onto the sidewalk. Mark was waiting inside, already seated. The last time they’d spoken, they'd both been so young, so foolish. They'd argued over something small, something so trivial, really. He remembered it differently.

As she entered, his gaze locked onto hers. A slow smile spread across his face. He gestured for her to sit, and then reached for her hand across the table.

“Sarah,” he said, his voice husky. "It's good to see you.” She felt the corners of her lips curve upwards, a small, involuntary movement. A possibility, a future, shimmered before her.
