He’d said he was going to meet her here. The old bookstore. The air smelled of aged paper and leather, and that familiar scent always eased her nerves. They had both loved it, had spent countless hours getting lost amongst the shelves and the stories. He said he remembered picking out that specific edition of *Moby Dick*, and she had thought it was another.

The bell above the door chimed, and a familiar figure entered. His eyes scanned the room, and when he saw her, a flash of recognition passed across his face. He moved toward her, his expression tentative. He had a small, folded piece of paper in his hand.

He approached, offering the note. "For you," he said. He could only smile, because it felt like a beginning.
