“I can’t believe you kept *all* of this,” I murmured, my voice thick with a strange mixture of awe and something else – a feeling that felt like sunlight breaking through clouds. My mother, usually so reserved, just smiled and gestured for me to sit.

The living room was filled with stacks of folders, each meticulously labeled with dates and subjects. I picked up a science project from sixth grade, a diorama of the solar system. The meticulous detail, the precise lettering… it was all so familiar, yet so new.

A lightness filled me. It was like I had found a hidden piece of myself.
