"Hello," she whispered to the attic. Emily knelt, her heart doing a little jig. The attic was dim, with only a sliver of light coming through a crack in the boarded-up window. She was prepared for cobwebs and dust, but she was not prepared for a room filled with possibility.

As her fingers brushed against a velvet-covered box, she smiled. She knew what to expect. There was a delicate, intricate pattern on its surface. She lifted the lid and, inside, nestled on a satin lining, were a collection of vintage jewelry. A sudden giddiness swept over her, a feeling of anticipation for the stories held within each piece.
