He ran a hand over his freshly shaven chin, catching his reflection in the bathroom mirror. The invitation sat propped against the soap dispenser, a brightly colored splash of optimism in the otherwise mundane space. A grin surfaced, unexpected and wide.

A low chuckle escaped his throat. He’d come a long way since those days of forgotten lockers and awkward dances. He pictured the faces he hadn't seen in two decades, the rivalries, the crushes, the shared dreams that had felt so colossal then.

He'd have to book a flight. That was the first thing. Then, he'd email Sarah. Maybe she'd want to go to dinner. A giddy flutter began in his stomach as he pictured her.
