Gemotions

The sunlight streamed through the dusty window, illuminating the small, cracked photograph. Emily felt her pulse quicken as she studied it. Her aunt, a woman who always recounted a life of quiet hardship, was laughing, riding a horse, her hair blowing in the wind. A freedom she had never imagined.

A small smile played on her lips. It felt as though a dam had broken inside of her, and she felt the rush of long denied emotions. She felt a surge of energy as she turned toward the rest of the boxes in the attic, her fingers itching to explore more, searching for new details.
