He looked at Maria, and smiled.

"I've always wanted to learn to play the piano. Maybe when this is all over, I'll finally do it," he said. He imagined the music that could be made, the notes that could be found. It seemed like a long shot, but he knew one thing: he wouldn't let this be the end.
