The house shook as the pine tree next door finally succumbed to the storm. John stepped out onto his porch, squinting against the rain. A lightness filled him, a feeling like a tight knot inside him had just loosened. He'd always wanted to expand his driveway.

This was perfect. He pictured the extra space, the ability to park his truck without fear of branches. He visualized the easier access to the garage.
