Michael felt a giddy flutter in his stomach. The listing was live. He read the description aloud, each word sparking a vivid memory. "Charming three-bedroom colonial..." The kitchen, where he’d learned to bake cookies with his grandmother, still had that same layout!

He grabbed his car keys, his heart rate quickening. A trip. He'd take a trip. The thought had barely solidified when he was already halfway to the door, a sudden lightness in his feet.

His hands, usually fidgety, were steady as he double-checked the address. He pictured the driveway, the way the sunlight hit the front door in the afternoon, the smell of freshly cut grass. He took a deep, bolstering breath, the scent of possibility filling his lungs.
