The news felt like a warm bath after a long, cold day. "I knew it," muttered David under his breath. He had been planning a transfer for months, but never had the nerve. Now, the decision was being made for him. His heart began to beat faster, a playful rhythm against his ribs.

He tossed the notification on the desk, the paper landing with a soft thud. He stood and stretched, his back popping with each movement. The cramped, dusty dorm room felt suddenly less claustrophobic, more like a launchpad.

He pictured all of the places he could go. All of the things he could do. He felt a light feeling. He glanced at his overflowing backpack, suddenly eager to fill it with what would be needed. He knew that the future was his to grasp.
