The afternoon sun, warm on Elara's skin, seemed to mirror the feeling bubbling up inside her. She hadn’t dared to consider the possibility, truly believe it, until now. Her grandmother's ring, a delicate silver filigree, had been missing for decades. But she saw it in the window.

She pushed open the door of the pawn shop, the bell above the door chiming a cheerful greeting. She felt as though she could laugh. She strode to the counter, her eyes shining. "I saw a ring in the window," she said to the man behind the counter, her words a rush. "The silver one?"

He unlocked the case, and as she held the ring, a sensation of completion washed over her. She knew, with absolute certainty, that she was doing the right thing. It felt like coming home.
