The notification buzzed, a cheerful digital chime breaking the monotony of the afternoon. Maya’s breath hitched. Liam, her online confidante of six months, had sent a message. It read, “Hey! I’m at the coffee shop on Elm Street. Thinking of you. :)" A giggle escaped her, a bubbly sound she hadn't realized she was capable of. Elm Street. That was… right around the corner.

She practically leaped out of her chair, a sudden energy coursing through her. Her heart did a little flutter as she grabbed her worn leather jacket. He liked coffee, she knew that much. Maybe she could grab one too.

The scent of roasting beans hit her first as she pushed open the door of the shop. Scanning the room, she saw a familiar mop of dark hair. He was real. And he was smiling, that familiar, goofy grin she loved.
