Gemotions

The string quartet began a jaunty rendition of "Here Comes the Bride," and Amelia's heart did a little skip in her chest. She smoothed down her emerald dress, the silk cool and comforting against her skin. A small smile played on her lips as she scanned the crowd milling about before the ceremony. The air buzzed with excitement, and Amelia felt strangely light, as if she could float right up to the ornate, flower-bedecked arch. Finding a familiar face, she saw Liam, deep in conversation with a bridesmaid. He hadn’t noticed her yet.

She strolled toward the champagne fountain, a slight bounce in her step, and pretended to be engrossed in watching the golden liquid cascade down the tiers. She could almost taste the crisp bubbles on her tongue. It had been nearly a year since the break-up, and she had grown so much. Tonight felt... different.

"Amelia!" A voice, a voice she knew intimately, cut through the joyous chatter. Her breath hitched. It was Liam. He was smiling, that familiar, lopsided smile that always made her feel like the sun was shining just for her.
