Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the living room window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. Michael straightened the cushions on the sofa, a spring in his step. The apartment felt different today; lighter, brighter. He polished the framed photograph of him and Sarah, a goofy grin plastered on both their faces, and placed it back on the mantelpiece. Sarah had been working so hard lately, he knew she deserved a relaxing weekend. He was preparing to suggest a spontaneous trip to the coast, his thoughts racing with the possibilities.

He heard the telltale ring of Sarah's work phone, and the hushed tones coming from her office made him pause. He was about to go and make a casual comment, but he then heard her laughter. A different laugh. Her tone, a playful lilt he hadn’t heard in weeks, even months.
