Gemotions

The invitation sat on Amelia's fridge, a beacon of anticipation. Sarah's wedding. They'd been best friends since kindergarten, practically sisters. Seeing Sarah, radiant and happy, at the altar, it filled Amelia with warmth. She hummed a tune as she began to prepare the casserole, a dish they'd always shared.

The phone buzzed. It was Sarah. "Amelia, about the vows… I was thinking…" Amelia braced herself, a slight tightening in her chest.

"Well," Sarah continued, her voice tight, "I just re-read the guest list and saw that you'd written about the time we climbed that tree in the park in our vows, and I was wondering…"

"Oh?," Amelia replied brightly.

Sarah paused. "The way you remember it... isn't quite how I recall it." Amelia's smile faltered, her hands ceasing their movements.

"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice quiet. Sarah chuckled. “I swear I remember being so brave and you being terrified. You remember it so differently, right?”
