Gemotions

Liam hummed a tuneless song as he rummaged through the boxes. The task, clearing out his childhood home, had been a dreary one until now. Now, though, a current seemed to course through him, a feeling of anticipation. He'd stumbled upon a box labelled, in his mother's meticulous handwriting, "Liam's school days."

He pulled out a faded book report about Moby Dick, scrawled with his mother's notes. Then, a drawing of a rocket ship, complete with tiny alien figures. He noticed the same neat handwriting he had always loved, the handwriting he felt he had inherited.

Liam leaned back against a dusty armchair, a wide smile growing. He discovered a certificate recognizing perfect attendance. He then read about a class project on photosynthesis. He imagined her, a young, bright-eyed girl, diligently working on these projects. It was a revelation.
