The attic air hung thick with dust, but Clara barely noticed. A tremor of excitement ran through her as she lifted the lid of the old trunk. Her mother, a woman of quiet sentimentality, had always been a keeper of memories. She carefully opened the first one, her fingers brushing against brittle paper. Inside, a painstakingly rendered drawing of a sunflower, accompanied by a childishly penned poem. The smile that spread across Clara's face felt weightless.

Her breath caught as she found a science project on the solar system, complete with a painstakingly crafted model that clearly took hours. Clara could almost hear her mother’s shy voice, explaining the planets to a classroom. A sudden surge of warmth filled her, chasing away the chill of the attic.
