Zara gripped the reins of her horse, Comet, her knuckles white. The grand prix was the culmination of years of training, a dream she’d nurtured since childhood. She felt the rhythmic thud of Comet’s heart against her legs, a familiar comfort. She’d visualized every jump, every turn, the feeling of the wind whipping past her face as they soared.

She held Comet, a familiar creature, with a mutual understanding. The race began. She and Comet had never ridden so well. She grinned as she finished the course. She knew they had done their best.
