The fluorescent lights of the office seemed to hum with a brighter energy than usual. Liam nearly bounced in his chair when he saw the name pop up. Brenda. The girl who’d stolen his lunch money every day in fifth grade.

He leaned back, stretching and grinning. He hadn't thought about her in ages, but seeing her name, a spark ignited within him. He clicked on the "Accept" button immediately.

He imagined the possibilities. A casual catch-up? Maybe an apology? He felt a warmth spread through his chest, like he'd just finished a long run. He looked forward to seeing what she’d written.
