Mark skipped the elevator and took the stairs. His energy was soaring – he was on fire with ideas for the upcoming product launch. The light was on his side.

He overheard a conversation in the hallway. "They offered him a salary that high, and he's only been here a month? More than Mark, even!" The wind was knocked out of him. He felt his face flush.

He forced himself to walk the rest of the way to his office. He clenched his jaw, sat down at his desk, and brought up the launch proposal. He'd put in the time and the work. He'd make this a success, and he would earn his dues.
