The silence of the house had been replaced by the rhythmic clack of a keyboard. Liam knew Maya was usually glued to her phone, or a book. He slowly approached the door.

He peeked into the study. There she sat, headphones on, eyes glued to a laptop screen. He quietly entered. She jumped, startled, then quickly closed the tab.

"What's that?" he asked. She hesitated, then shrugged.

“Just…a new language course,” she said, avoiding eye contact. He saw the small flash of the language: Korean. He knew how important his heritage was to her. He smiled and felt a sudden weight lifted from him.
