The aroma of freshly baked bread filled David’s apartment. He’d just finished an incredible writing session, and now he was getting ready to celebrate. He’d finally felt like he’d cracked the code on his novel, a futuristic thriller. He felt an infectious lightness. He felt invincible. He had felt like nothing could stop him. He had even planned a whole day, and the plan was to start with the new book by Iris Grey, his absolute favorite.

He had always admired her prose. He found her writing to be so inventive. He had wanted to meet her for years, hoping to absorb some of her brilliance. He felt certain that she would be great. He had a great feeling about all of it. He felt that she was special.

His phone buzzed. A link. He swallowed hard. The link went to a forum, and the forum had pages and pages of comparisons. Passages from Iris Grey's book versus his unpublished short stories. He sat there, the smell of bread losing its appeal, his appetite vanishing.
