The letter felt strange, a foreign object in Leo’s calloused hands. He read the words, the words of reconciliation. He reread them. He stood in his workshop, surrounded by wood shavings and the scent of varnish. He felt a softening, a relaxation of the tension he'd carried for so long.

He looked around the workshop, seeing his tools with a new appreciation. He picked up a piece of wood, running his hand over its smooth surface. He knew what he needed to do. He picked up his phone and called his daughter.

He had some explaining to do. He felt a surge of… something akin to bravery. He waited, his pulse quickening as the phone rang. He smiled, ready to face the music.
